Job Title: Internal Control Manager
Location: Nigeria Head Office, Ilupeju, Lagos

Position Summary

- Nestlé Nigeria is currently looking to fill the role of an Internal Control Manager, who will be responsible for maintaining the tools and methodology to ensure that the internal control environment in Nestlé Nigeria Plc and Nestlé Nigeria Trust (CPFA) Limited is effective and operating as designed. This includes a heavy emphasis on the Information & Communication layers within the internal control framework adopted by the company. To further foster an environment of control consciousness within the organization.
Roles and Responsibilities
A Day in the Life of the Internal Control Manager:
Internal Control Framework and Methodology:
- Own the design, implementation, documentation, assessment, and monitoring of the internal control framework, including group policies and key risks to ensure that the group has adequate controls to prevent unintentional and intentional errors in financial reporting, processes, and business operations.
- Deliver adequate and timely reporting on the internal control framework and control deficiencies to ensure appropriate communication, documentation, and escalation to business partners, senior leadership, and the audit committee.
- Deliver adequate and timely action plans and monitor progress to address and resolve control deficiencies.
Internal Control Data Analytics Tools and Techniques /Key Risks Indicators Dashboard:
- Leverage ICOS KRIs dashboards and monthly publications of identified key risk indicators and follow up with business processes for improvements.
- Monitoring of Highly Sensitive Roles across all locations and maintaining zero Segregation of Duties roles conflicts
Business Process Reviews and Investigations:
- Lead and drive for efficient controls through the review of processes and technical solutions available at the business level to automate the execution and monitoring of the controls as much as possible.
- Perform timely independent reviews and investigations as required by the Management, and internal stakeholders, or assigned through confidential reports received from the Integrity Reporting Systems (IRS) platform. Provide recommendations for gap closure.
Risk and Control Matrix Self-Assessment:
- Drive the annual risk and control self-assessment across identified business processes through the established actor matrix tool deployed. Engagement with stakeholders to ensure timely completion and provide regular updates.
Regulatory Reporting:
- Quarterly reporting to the board audit committee of both Nestlé Nigeria Plc and Nestlé Nigeria Trust (CPFA) Limited (serving as the Head of Internal Audit as a separate legal entity) on Internal Control, Internal Audit, Compliance, and Fraud-related issues.
- Quarterly reporting to the Board Risk Management Committee for updates on annual Enterprise Risk Management of Nestlé Nigeria Plc.
External and Internal Stakeholders Engagements:
- Alignment with internal and external audits to ensure that internal control methodologies and tools adopted by Nestlé meet expectations for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensure timely closure of internal audit recommendations and external audit management letter recommendations.
Compliance to Listing Requirement of Internal Control over Reporting Framework:
- Establish the framework for Internal Controls over Reporting (ICOFR) in compliance with SEC rules Section 60 – 63.
- Drive and execute testing controls of key business processes to aid accurate financial reporting processes void of material or significant control deficiencies.
- Collaborate with external auditors to ensure timely filing of the Assessment Report to regulatory authorities.
Internal Control as a business enabler; reinforcing discipline and control culture in all employees:
- Develop and conduct adequate training and prepare related information material on the internal control objectives, approach, and methodology to business partners regularly to build knowledge and understanding of risks and control.
- Create the necessary transparency within Nestlé to ensure that the business demonstrates the proper level of ownership (responsibility and accountability) for the effectiveness of the internal controls by the company.
- Research and recommend tools to improve the Internal Control environment at Nestlé by identifying appropriate solutions that the business can adopt or automate to place reliance on a higher percentage of preventive controls.
What Will Make You Successful?
- B.Sc. / HND in Business Administration / Economics / Accounting / Finance. Professional Certification i.e. ACA, ACCA is mandatory.
- Minimum 7 years operational experience in Accounting/Finance/Audit/Control.
- Demonstrated leadership in working within cross-functional and matrixed organizations.
- Prior experience in Finance & Control and the functional knowledge of key business processes such as Order to Cash, Procure to Pay, etc.
- Excellent project management and delivery skills.
- Highly developed leadership and influencing skills as core competencies essential for success within the role.
- Experience within ERP environments to leverage the knowledge of integrated systems and the development and maintenance of an internal control framework.
